  • 5 cups simmering water
  • 2 1/23 3/4 cups organic all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (0.25 oz) active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp cane sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted vegan butter (+ extra for topping)
  • 1 cup slightly warm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Coarse salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the yeast mixture by dissolving sugar in warm water and sprinkling yeast on top; let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Stir in melted vegan butter, then gradually add salt and flour until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 3–5 minutes until firm.
  4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F and prepare boiling water with baking soda.
  6. Shape the dough into pretzels by rolling into ropes and forming U shapes before twisting.
  7. Boil each pretzel for about 20 seconds using a slotted spatula; transfer to a baking tray.
  8. Brush with melted vegan butter, sprinkle coarse salt, and bake for 10–15 minutes until golden brown.
