Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium onions (sliced)
  • 1 cup chickpea flour
  • 1 Tbsp nutritional yeast (optional)
  • 3/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp lime juice (or lemon juice)
  • 1 green hot chili pepper (finely chopped)
  • 1 Tbsp parsley (chopped or cilantro)
  • 3 Tbsp oil (for frying; coconut oil recommended)

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the onions into thin strips.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, nutritional yeast, ground cumin, salt, turmeric, water, lime juice, chili pepper, and herbs. Whisk until you have a medium-thick batter.
  3. Add the sliced onions to the batter and mix thoroughly with your hands to ensure even coating.
  4. Heat coconut oil in a skillet over medium heat. Drop small portions of the coated onions into the hot oil (about four fritters at a time).
  5. Fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides (approximately 2-4 minutes per side). Repeat until all batter is used.
